My name is Ralf Holleis, and I’ve been building HUHN bikes since 2011. What began as a passion project in my workshop has grown into a brand rooted in craftsmanship, exploration, and responsibility.
For me, bikes were always about freedom – long before I ever had a driver’s license, I was discovering the world from the saddle. From the very first bikes I built, it was about creating something personal: bikes designed for the riders who would take them on their own adventures.
In those early days, each bike was a collaboration. Through hundreds of conversations, I learned what makes a truly great bike: simplicity, durability, and a connection between rider and trail. Over time I realized every rider shares the same desires – freedom, confidence, reliability. That’s when I moved beyond one-off customs and started offering small-batch, handcrafted steel frames.

At HUHN,

We blend traditional craftsmanship with modern technology like 3D-printed lugs and precision welding, creating bikes that are built to last a lifetime. These bikes aren’t just for today – they’re meant to be passed down, carrying stories from one rider to the next.
Our name, “HUHN,”
which means chicken in German, reflects our spirit of resilience and adventure. Chickens live in the dirt but carry themselves with elegance, moving forward with confidence. Like a chicken taking flight for short distances, HUHN bikes are designed to soar – over trails, mountains, and through the wilderness – while staying grounded in performance and control.
Today,
I continue to build HUHN bikes by hand in our barn workshop in the mountains of Fichtelgebirge. We’ve also expanded with small-run production models made in Berlin, allowing more riders to experience the craftsmanship and quality we’re known for. Alongside these production models, I still create limited batches of special frames, experimenting with new designs and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in bikebuilding.
